This Privacy Policy explains how Dawam (“the App”) handles information when you use it on iOS or Android, and when you use the Dawam website at dawamapp.com.
Summary
Dawam is built local-first. Quran reading, Hifdh (memorisation), prayer times, and your preferences stay on your device. Dawam does not require an account, does not offer in-app purchases, and does not show ads.
Who we are
Dawam is published by Vision Digital, operated by Bo Seerden, in the Netherlands. The App’s bundle and package identifier is com.bdseerden.dawam. Privacy questions: info@vision-digital.nl.
Information we process
Data stored on your device
Depending on how you use Dawam, the App may store locally:
- Language and appearance preferences
- Daily reading goals, your place in the mushaf, and reminder settings
- Quran reading logs (amounts and minutes)
- Hifdh (memorisation) progress and settings
- Quran audio you download for offline playback
- A cached location used to calculate prayer times
You can erase this local data with Settings → Reset all data, or by uninstalling the App.
Location for prayer times
When you turn on prayer times or prayer reminders, Dawam may request location while you use the App. That location is used to calculate prayer times with the method you choose in Settings (Muslim World League by default) and to schedule related reminders. Location is not sold. Quran reading and Hifdh do not require location.
Local notifications
With your permission, Dawam schedules local notifications for reading reminders and prayer times. Notification text is created on the device. Dawam does not run a cloud push account for these reminders.
Apple widgets, Live Activity, and Apple Watch
On Apple devices, prayer Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Live Activities, and Apple Watch complications may receive the prayer schedule through an App Group shared container on your devices. That schedule stays on your devices. Live Activities and Watch complications are Apple-only.
On Android, the optional home-screen prayer widget may keep the same on-device prayer snapshot so it can show the next prayer and the times. Dawam does not add Wear OS.
Quran audio downloads
Recitation is not all stored in the App. When you stream or download Quran audio, your device requests the files from public Quran audio hosts. Those hosts see a normal download request, including your IP address. Dawam does not send your name, reading logs, or an account with that request. Files you save stay on your device and can play offline until you delete them or uninstall the App.
What we do not do
- No user accounts
- No in-app purchases
- No advertising or ad-tracking SDKs
- No sale of personal information
- No Dawam cloud copy of your reading, Hifdh, or prayer history
Sharing
We share information only as needed for a feature you use:
- Apple and Google, as required to distribute the App and to deliver operating-system services you turn on (notifications, widgets, Live Activities, Watch)
- Quran audio hosts, when you stream or download recitation, as described above
- Stripe, only if you choose to donate on dawamapp.com. You enter payment details on Stripe’s checkout. Dawam does not see or store your card number. A donation is optional and is not an in-app purchase
Retention
Local data remains until you reset it in Settings, delete downloaded audio, uninstall the App, or clear App storage. We do not keep a Dawam server archive of your practice.
Your choices
- Deny location or notification permission (prayer times and reminders may be limited)
- Choose not to download Quran audio
- Reset all data in Settings
- Uninstall the App
Because practice data stays on your device, you hold it. For other privacy questions, email info@vision-digital.nl. We aim to reply within 30 days.
Children
Dawam is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age required in your country.
Changes
We may update this policy when the App changes. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do. The current policy is published at https://dawamapp.com/privacy.
